Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) 2009 begins 4th April and it wants to encourage everyone to start, show and share kindness. We aspire to inspire graciousness one kind act at a time. By sparing a thought for the people around us, we hope to create a gracious society, and make life better for you and me.
This year, we introduce our big-hearted kindness ambassadors - well-loved actor Edmund Chen, respected medical specialist, Dr Ann Tan, national golfer Heng Su-Ann, and popular 98.7FM radio DJ Shan Wee.

I believe being kind and gracious is giving others a bit more "slack". There are times when people have bad days and we just need to be more understanding and kind. Singaporeans can be more gracious simply by being more patient. Also, we should learn to be kind to ourselves first. We tend to be hardest on ourselves but we shouldn't beat ourselves up too much.
When I was growing up, I felt bad for the old ladies on the road and the needy people. I wanted to show more kindness towards others from that point onwards. Hence I always try to give my time for others and engage in volunteer work.
